FRIENDS OF WONI RAISES FUNDS FOR SAFE WATER PROJECTS.
PEOPLE IN RURAL KENYAN VILLAGES have to walk over four miles each way to obtain clean drinkable water. To help alleviate the burden, Evalee Treen founded Friends of Woni Kenya International Inc. whose main objective is to raise funds to drill water wells in Kenya.
“I decided to create Friends to make a small difference in Kenya,” shared Treen. “Having been there over 20 times, I have met many wonderful people who are in need of clean drinking water… I also helped with some funds to build a preschool in a rural village, before creating the non-profit.”
The all-volunteer staff of Friends of Woni Kenya has spent many months in Kenya identifying locations that need water. They have received funding for drilling two wells, installing water pumps, electrification, and building collection tanks for distribution in the villages.
Recently, Friends of Woni Kenya hosted Hakuna Matata, a social event to help raise funds to drill another well. Over 200 guests enjoyed a gourmet dinner by Chef Fidel and entertainment by jazz singer Lois Mahalia and the “King of Mariachis” Omar Arreola, who are both on the Friends of Woni Kenya Board of Directors.
“The highlight for me was seeing so many people come out to help raise funds and awareness for our projects,” shared Treen. “Since the event, I have received emails from people wanting to become members.”
Friends of Woni Kenya International is a Non-Profit Organization based in the United States of America that seeks funds to help educate Kenyans and reduce poverty levels among some of the most poor communities in Kenya.
